Dear Readers,

It is with great pleasure that I announce publication of the 45th issue of the Scientific Journals of the Maritime University of Szczecin. The Journal has been published in the new format for over a year now. During this time, we have developed new publishing procedures, suitable for a modern journal, and directed towards providing open access to facilitate the sharing of peer-reviewed scientific results. We have also succeeded in improving the Journal’s score in the official ranking published by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Poland, and our score in the Index Copernicus list. Further, the Journal has been indexed in InfoBase and the prestigious Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). All these activities have brought about an increasing interest in the Journal which is attributed to the joint effort of several individuals, including the staff of the Publishing House at the Maritime University of Szczecin, members of the Journal’s Scientific Board, reviewers, and consultants. As Editor-in-Chief, I would like to express my sincerest appreciation and thanks to all for their invaluable contribution.

I hope that the continued improvement in the quality and content of the manuscripts published in our quarterly will contribute to the Journal’s accreditation by the most renowned science information exchange institutions. Our key objective is to be indexed by Scopus and the Web of Science databases, but we are aware that this requires considerable effort. Therefore, we kindly ask our readers to submit any suggestions that might help further enhance the quality of our publication.

The latest issue of the Journal features articles that should attract the attention of readers interested in a broad range of maritime-related topics. This includes articles devoted to ship hydrodynamics, the theory of control, legal issues associated with marine traffic, advanced communication tools, localisation and marine safety technologies as well as operation of port basins and coastal areas. This issue contains research findings on marine engineering, navigation and transportation engineering that utilise state-of-the-art tools such as advanced mathematical models, decision support systems and augmented reality. I consider that the interdisciplinary content and broad thematic scope will make this issue particularly attractive to our readership.

Finally, I strongly encourage authors to submit their manuscripts for consideration by the Journal. In order to access the electronic version of the latest issue and the archive of earlier issues please visit our website: http://journals.am.szczecin.pl.
